ACTIVITIES AROUND THE STORY
The story comes from the book ‘ Do and Understand –Adison Wesley Longman Limited 1996’ where I found the pictures and the text. I did used it many times with my learners, and I always add different kinds of variations which depend on the age of the students, but generally all my primary students like the story. It usually takes about two or three lessons.

The story of a little mouse.
A LITTLE MOUSE COMES OUT OF HER HOLE
SHE LOOKS AROUND
THE CUPBOARD IS OPEN
SHE CLIMBS UP THE CUPBOARD
THERE’S A PLATE WITH CHEESE ON IT
SHE EATS THE CHEESE
AND SHE FALLS ASLEEP
SUDDENLY THE MAN COMES INTO THE KITCHEN
HE’ S VERY HUNGRY
HE TAKES THE PLATE
THE MOUSE JUMPS DOWN
THE MAN DROPS THE PLATE AND RUNS AWAY

PRETEACHING AND REVISING THE VOCABULARY:
- REALIA: teacher brings the toy mouse, the plate, the cheese
- Teacher shows the pictures of the cupboard, the hole, and also mimes the words: hungry, climb, jump, look around, fall asleep, drop, run away.
1. Students repeat and try to remember the words. Drilling is more interesting when the teacher and the students change voices: quietly, loudly, with a low and high voice, quickly, slowly.
2. Teacher says the words voicelessly and students try to guess the word from the lips movements.
3. Teacher shows the things and asks:
Is it a mouse? Ss: No, it isn’t
Is it a hole? Ss: Yes, it is.
3. MIMING: one student mimes a chosen word , the rest of them must guess.
4. WORKSHEET: depending on the age of children, students must match the picture with the word, or write the word under the picture.
