Moja propozycja dotyczy lekcji j. angielskiego w gimnazjum. Polecam. Agata Roskosz-Stachnio

A set of teaching materials (level – pre-intermediate to advanced) relating to chosen elements of British culture.

Teacher: Agata Roskosz-Stachnio

PG nr 2, Jelcz-Laskowice

Introduction

I have prepared a set of materials relating to various elements of British culture, history and tourist attractions. These teaching materials are suitable for advanced and pre-intermediate levels of students (two different sets) aged 14 or more.
The aims of the lessons 1 and 2 based on these materials are:
- to widen the knowledge about British culture, history, customs;
- to improve general knowledge about the capital city of Great Britain;
- to extend vocabulary connected with British culture etc.;
- to improve reading – skimming and scanning,
- to improve writing, and speaking skills.
The objectives of the lessons are based on the results of a questionnaire, which I prepared for my students in September 2006.
According to the outcome of the survey, my students would like to learn more about culture and customs of English-speaking countries. They also pointed out some problems with reading and speaking skills. That is why my lesson plans are to cover their needs.
The basic materials (mainly reading tasks) are enriched by speaking and writing games or quizzes. They also are enhanced by extra items, such as photos, pictures, posters, a map, flags (real), brochures and a fragment of a film. I have collected various objects, gadgets, souvenirs, written materials, which are very helpful while teaching cultural aspects of English language countries.
The lesson plans are organized in some stages: warm-up, pre-reading, reading (first and second reading) and post-reading. The warm-up and pre-reading activities are crucial in terms of lowing students’ anxiety, clarity of the content and the purpose of the reading. This will make the reading much easier to them.
The tasks are prepared for pairs, groups and individual work. It is very important because it gives them confidence and ,means that they can share what they know.
There also is the final long-term task for students to prepare. They are to write a project for their portfolio.
Moreover, these materials can be simplified and used separately as elements of various lesson plans.
