Lesson plan

Topic: Present Simple – introduction and practise

Level: Elementary

Age: 13 years old

Aims: primary aim:

to present, practise and produce positive, negative, questions and short answers in present simple

to develop:

usage of present simple in practise

talking about yourself

the skill of listening for specific information

to present and practise

certain vocabulary items: suburbs / flat / main square

to revise:

vocabulary connected with music and school subjects

personal pronouns (I / you / he / she/ we / they) and object pronouns ( his / her)

Exponents: Spike and Joe live in Britain

They don’t live in Poland

Do they live in Britain?

Yes, they do / No, they don’t

Adam lives in Poland

Adam doesn’t live in Italy

Does Adam live in Poland?

Yes, he does / No, he doesn’t

Assumed knowledge:- personal pronouns and object pronouns

my favourite…is…

the names of school subjects and types of music

some of the pupils know structure: I like… / I don’t like….

Aids: - ‘New Snapshot’ SB

cassette of ‘New Snapshot’ Unit 1

blank pieces of paper

‘own’ flash cards with information about the Teen Work Students

small cards for the game ‘Find someone who…’

pictures explaining new words

Time: 90 minutes (two 45 minutes lessons)

Anticipated problems: - forgetting to add the endings –s / -es

- problems with do / does while making negative statements and

questions

Procedure:

Warm up: - T asks Ss what they can say about The Liverpool Project and what is this

(10 min) project about and whether they remember who takes part in this project

- T elicits the names of the volunteers taking part in this project and their

nationalities

Presentation: - T using the names of The Liverpool Project students, elicits the positive and

(20 min) negative sentences and writes them on BB e.g.

Adam lives in Poland

Adam doesn’t live in Italy

- T asks one S (girl) Where do you come from? and elicits an answer which S

writes on BB

I come from Poland

- T writes on BB: She……….. Poland. And asks SS to complete the sentence.

Then T asks the same question: Where do you come from? one of the boys,

And writes on BB: He…………Poland. SS complete sentence on BB

- T asks another S What do you like and you don’t like? The answer is written

on BB by S

I like…

- Ss in pairs think of three more ...
