LESSON PLAN 1

Background information:

Teacher: Maria Mazurowska

Date: 07th April 2011
Level: beginners, 5th grade
Location: SP no 1, Koźmin Wlkp.
Topic: “Friends’ Magazine” – jobs.
Duration: 45 minutes
Coursebook: ‘New Friends 2” Pearson Longman

Description of class: 13 Polish students, the group of boys. The class is very active (although there are some students who sometimes do not participate in the lesson, especially, when they do not understand something or are not prepared), students are quite good at English. There aren’t such big problems. Teacher uses English as much as possible.

Timetable fit: Last time the students learnt the Present Continuous Tense (questions and short answers).

Aids for the lesson:
- 5 photos of different jobs (chef, actor, politician, vet, racing driver) – appendix 1
- small pieces of paper with written names of those and other jobs – appendix 2
- a CD with recordings needed to the exercises and with the main text (appendix 3, 8),
- a sheet of paper with a table to write down the notes about jobs – appendix 4,
- exercise 2, page 76 – appendix 5,
- text p. 76 – 77 – appendix 6,
- exercise 4, page 77 – appendix 7,
- Crossword A and B from Teacher’s Book – page 168 (resource 23) – appendix 9,
- Activity book – pages 62 and 63 – appendix 10.

General assumption:
- to teach students the difference between Present Simple and Present Continuous and how to use it in natural situations,
- to teach students the new vocabulary – jobs,
- to practice receptive skills: reading and listening for general and specific understanding,
- to develop productive skills: speaking and writing,
- to read a simple dialogue – to practice pronunciation, stress and intonation.
- to practise answering different questions – to check the understanding of the written text,
- to practise a new vocabulary.

Anticipated problems and possible sollutions:
a) They may not understand some words
Solution: teacher draws some pictures of the jobs students don’t understand, teacher explains with some help of other students difficult key words.
b) they may not understand the difference between the tenses
Solution: teacher gives more examples and explains one more time.
