Topic: “Crazy pets” – telling the time.
Coursebook: ‘New Friends 1” Pearson Longman
Description of the class: Primary School, age 10, the group of 12 girls, level elementary, Ls have English 3 times a week. They have already learned about “to be”, “have got”, “can”, the Present Simple Tense. They have a knowledge of simple vocabulary, they are eager to talk, good rapport between T and Ss.
Aims of the lesson:
Main aim: By the end of the lesson Ss will have learned the rules of telling the time and practiced Present Simple – routines (positive, especially paying attention to 3rd person, singular) and how to use it in natural situations (ex: talking about themselves),
Subsidiary aims:
- Ss will develop and improve their reading, listening, speaking and writing skills,
- Ss will broaden the vocabulary connected with the normal day activities – they will use the vocabulary to talk about their normal day (also with time they use to do it),
- Ss will be able to tell the time, remembering about the use of “-at” while telling the time (ex: “I get up at 7 o’clock”).
Aids for the lesson:
- Different types of the real clocks – big and small, with the hands, electronic, hand watch – appendix 1 (photo)
- small pieces of paper with written names of those jobs – appendix 2
- a CD with recordings needed to the exercises and with the main text (tapescript – appendix 2, 9),
- a sheet of paper to write down the times – appendix 3,
- 7 paper clocks – appendix 4,

- a face of a girl (with a question) and a face of a boy (with the answers) – appendix 6,

Anticipated problems:
- problems with the use of Present Simple while creating sentences starting from “She / He” (Ss may forget about “-s / -es” ),
- lack of vocabulary connected with the routines,
- problems with understanding, that in England people don’t say 16.00 o’clock but 4 o’clock p. m. so they must ...
