Why don't we go swimming?

1. Warm – up: students unscramble the words (Places in towns - worksheet 1).

2. Students answer some questions about their town, for example:
• Are there any libraries in your town? How many? Where?

Is there a football pitch? Are there any theatres or cinemas?

3. Students read a short dialogue. Draw their attention to the underlined phrases. Students

write them in their notebooks.

A: I want to take some photos. Let's go to the garden.
B: No, that's boring...
A: What about going swimming?
B: Tom, you know I can't swim!
A: I know! Why don't we play hide and seek in the park?
B: Good idea. Let's go!

4. Write the dialogue on the board (or use an overhead projector if possible), removing some
words. Ask students to read the text and reconstruct the words. Repeat the activity several
times until they feel confident while speaking.

A: I want to take some p_______. Let's go to the g_______.
B: No, that's b_______...

5. Students read the phrases in the box (worksheet 2). Check the understanding and explain
the meaning if necessary. Students work in pairs and match the activities with the places.
Some activities may be used several times. Check the exercise.

6. Choose two students (student A and student B) to demonstrate the activity. They perform

a short conversation using the words/phrases they have previously practised. When they
agree on where to go and what to do, ask them to change the partner. Children can draw lots
with their new partner's name to have more fun. Decide whether they work simultaneously
or take turns in front of the class.
