‘My favourite toy’
Age: 8-10
Level: begginer, elementery
We are basing ourselves on the material we have already known.
Pre-task: What is your favourite toy?
Brainstorming, writing down on the blackboard the examples of children’s favourite toys, eventually: small drawings of these toys to make words clear for every pupil.
Task: Make your favourite toy of plasticine, then try to think how to describe your toy using the words and constructions you have already known:
My teddy bear/ ballerina/ cat etc. has got small/big blue/green/etc. eyes.
He/she has got dark/ fair hair.
He/she has got a small/big nose/mouth.
She/he has got big/small yellow/brown/etc. ears.
The teacher helps the pupils by giving them useful words and expressions. He/she can also bring a plasticine toy made by himself/herself and describe it in front of the pupils to make the task clear.
Planning: Think and write down what your plasticine toy looks like. Children plan how to describe their toys, which expressions use, they think about the colours, size and nouns, they would like to use.
Reporting: Describe your toy. Pupils describe their toys in front of the class, the teacher asks the rest of them questions about the presenting toy, like: Are the eyes of the Teddy bear green or blue? Is his nose big or small? What is the colour of its ears? Raise your hands, please who thinks that the nose of the ballerina is small.etc.
Analysis: The teacher highlight some new words and constructions which have appeared during the task.
Practice: Pupils do some exercises connected with the task and the subject in their course book, activity book, eventually brought and copied by the teacher.
