A Novel
Title: ‘The Last Chronicle of Barset’ by Anthony Trollope
Level: Upper-intermediate
Age Group: 17 – 18
Aims:
The students are able to discuss some general questions concerning the topic of crime and punishment.
The students learn new vocabulary concerning the topic of law crime and punishment.
The students are encouraged to read a whole novel.
Time: 45 minutes
Procedure:
PRE-READING ACTIVITIES:
The students are divided into groups of four. In groups, they discuss the given questions. Then, each group presents their answers – a class discussion.
WHILE- READING ACTIVITIES:
The students read the beginning of the novel.
The students are provided with some overall questions to check they have understood the gist of the story.
POST-READING ACTIVITIES:
The students deal with the vocabulary tasks ( in pairs ). They can use dictionaries to help them.
As their homework, the students write a short paragraph, in about 100 words, answering the given questions.
Volunteers can read the novel and then present orally its summary to the rest of the class.
